[Wednesday]'s vote by Congress effectively gives retroactive immunity to the telecom companies and endorses an all-powerful president. It’s a Congressional coup against the Constitution.
The Democratic leadership is touting the deal as a "compromise," but in fact they have endorsed the infamous Nuremberg defense: "Just following orders." The judge can only check their paperwork. This cynical deal is a Democratic exercise in deceit and cowardice.

Congress has made the FISA law a dead letter--such a law is useless if the president can break it with impunity. Thus the Democrats have surreptitiously repudiated the main reform of the post-Watergate era and adopted Nixon’s line: "When the president does it that means that it is not illegal." This is the judicial logic of a dictatorship.
The surveillance system now approved by Congress provides the physical apparatus for the government to collect and store a huge database on virtually the entire population, available for data mining whenever the government wants to target its political opponents at any given moment—all in the hands of an unrestrained executive power. It is the infrastructure for a police state.

The Trilateral Commission is a private organization, established to foster closer cooperation between America, Europe and Japan. It was founded in July 1973, at the initiative of David Rockefeller; who was Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations at that time. The Trilateral Commission is widely seen as a counterpart to the Council on Foreign Relations.[1] He pushed the idea of including Japan at the Bilderberg meetings he was attending but was rebuffed. Along with Zbigniew Brzezinski and a few other people, including individuals from the Brookings Institution, Council on Foreign Relations and the Ford Foundation, he convened initial meetings out of which grew the Trilateral organization.
Other founding members included Alan Greenspan and Paul Volcker, both eventually heads of the Federal Reserve system.

Its first executive committee meeting was held in Tokyo in October 1973. In May 1976, the first plenary meeting of all of the Commission's regional groups took place in Kyoto, attended by Jimmy Carter.[2] Today it consists of approximatively 300–350 private citizens from Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and North America, and exists to promote closer political and economic cooperation between these areas, which are the primary industrial regions in the world.[3] Its official journal from its founding is a magazine called Trialogue.
Membership is divided into numbers proportionate to each of its three regional areas. These members include corporate CEOs, politicians of all major parties, distinguished academics, university presidents, labor union leaders and not-for-profits involved in overseas philanthropy. Members who gain a position in their respective country's government must resign from the Commission.
The organization has come under much scrutiny and criticism by political activists and academics working in the social and political sciences. The Commission has found its way into a number of conspiracy theories, especially when it became known that President Jimmy Carter appointed 26 former Commission members to senior positions in his Administration. Later it was revealed that Carter himself was a former Trilateral member. In the 1980 election, it was revealed that Carter and his two major opponents, John B. Anderson and George H. W. Bush, were also members, and the Commission became a campaign issue. Ronald Reagan supporters noted that he was not a Trilateral member, but after he was chosen as Republican nominee he chose Bush as his running mate; as president, he appointed a few Trilateral members to Cabinet positions and held a reception for the Commission in the White House in 1984. The conservative John Birch Society believes that the Trilateral Commission is dedicated to a one-world government.[4] In 1980, Holly Sklar released a book titled Trilateralism: the Trilateral Commission and Elite Planning for World Management.
Since many of the members were businesspeople or bankers, actions that they took or encouraged that helped the banking industry have been noted. Jeremiah Novak, writing in the July 1977 issue of Atlantic, said that after international oil prices rose when Nixon set price controls on American domestic oil, many developing countries were required to borrow from banks to buy oil: "The Trilaterists' emphasis on international economics is not entirely disinterested, for the oil crisis forced many developing nations, with doubtful repayment abilities, to borrow excessively. All told, private multinational banks, particularly Rockefeller's Chase Manhattan, have loaned nearly $52 billion to developing countries. An overhauled International Monetary Fund (IMF) would provide another source of credit for these nations, and would take the big private banks off the hook.This proposal is the cornerstone of the Trilateral plan."[5]
The North American continent is represented by 107 members (15 Canadian, seven Mexican and 85 U.S. citizens). The European group has reached its limit of 150 members, including citizens from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
At first, Asia and Oceania were represented only by Japan. However, in 2000 the Japanese group of 85 members expanded itself, becoming the Pacific Asia group, composed of 117 members: 75 Japanese, 11 South Koreans, seven Australian and New Zealand citizens, and 15 members from the ASEAN nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand). The Pacific Asia group also includes nine members from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Al Qaeda's Gold: Following Trail to Dubai

Just as the United States and its allies swept toward Afghanistan's main cities last autumn, the ruling Taliban and Osama bin Laden's Qaeda network sent waves of couriers with bars of gold and bundles of dollars across the porous border into Pakistan.

In small shops and businesses along the border, the money and gold, taken from Afghanistan's banks and national coffers, were collected and moved by trusted Taliban and Qaeda operatives to the port city of Karachi, according to sources familiar with the events. Then, using couriers and the virtually untraceable hawala money transfer system, they transferred millions of dollars to this desert sheikhdom, where the assets were converted to gold bullion.

The riches of the Taliban and Al Qaeda were subsequently scattered around the world through a financial structure that has been little affected by the international efforts to seize suspected terrorist assets. This account of the flight of the Taliban and Qaeda treasure from Afghanistan is based on dozens of interviews in Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Europe and the United States.

The gold trail was described by intelligence officers, law enforcement officials, gold brokers, and sources that have direct knowledge of some of Al Qaeda's financial movements, but not by Taliban or Al Qaeda operatives.

v The interviews offered a tantalizing glimpse into the critical yet mysterious role played by gold in the finances of Al Qaeda, both before and after the Sept. 11 attacks. Gold has allowed the Taliban and bin Laden largely to preserve their financial resources, despite the military attack that battered their forces in Afghanistan, investigators and intelligence sources said.

Al Qaeda also used diamonds purchased in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo, tanzanite from Tanzania and other commodities to make money and hide assets. But gold played a uniquely important role in the group's financial structure, investigators and intelligence sources said, because it is a global currency.

"Gold is a huge factor in the moving of terrorist money because you can melt it, smelt it or deposit it on account with no questions asked," said a senior U.S. law enforcement official investigating gold transactions. "Why move it through Dubai? Because there is a willful blindness there."

Since it is exempt from international reporting requirements for financial transactions, gold is a favored commodity in laundering money from drug trafficking, organized crime and terrorist activities, U.S. officials said. In addition, Dubai, one of seven sheikhdoms that make up the United Arab Emirates, has one of the world's largest and least regulated gold markets, making it an ideal place to hide.

Dubai is also one of the region's most open banking centers and is the commercial capital of the United Arab Emirates, one of three countries that maintained diplomatic relations with the Taliban until shortly after Sept. 11. Sitting at a strategic crossroad of the Gulf, South Asia and Africa, Dubai has long been a financial hub for Islamic militant groups. Much of the $500,000 used to fund the Sept. 11 attacks came through Dubai, investigators believe.

"All roads lead to Dubai when it comes to money," said Patrick Jost, who until last year was a senior financial enforcement officer in the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. "Everyone did business there." When the U.S. bombs began pounding Taliban and Al Qaeda targets last autumn, the rush of gold and money out of Afghanistan intensified.

The Pakistani financial authorities said that $2 million to $3 million a day is usually hand-carried by couriers from Karachi to Dubai, mostly to buy gold. Late last year that amount increased significantly as money was moved out of Afghanistan, they said.

Pakistani and U.S. officials estimate that $10 million from Afghanistan was taken out by courier over three weeks in late November and early December. The Taliban's fighters fled Kabul on Nov. 12 and abandoned Kandahar on Dec. 7.

One of the couriers of cash and gold to Dubai was the Taliban consul-general in Karachi, Kaka Zada, who took at least one shipment of $600,000 to Dubai in the last week of November, according to two Pakistani sources who witnessed him carrying the money.

In addition, U.S. and other officials said, millions more were sent through hawalas, the informal money transfer system widely used across the Middle East, North Africa and Asia that, outside of major cities, often serves as the only money transfer system.

Rather than moving money through traceable mechanisms such as wire transfers, hawala brokers take a client's money, then call or e-mail a counterpart in the area where the client wants the money delivered. The counterpart pays out the sum. When the transaction is complete, the records are destroyed.

Gold is often used by hawala brokers to balance their books. Hawala dealers also routinely have gold, rather than currency, placed around the globe.

"There are no traditional banking systems in Afghanistan or Somalia," Jost said. "Everything is done through hawala, and gold is the fuel hawala runs on."

U.S. investigators, led by the Customs Service, have begun poring over transactions of some of Dubai's largest and most prestigious gold brokerages for possible links to the movement of Al Qaeda or Taliban money and have found unusual gold shipments into the United States after Sept. 11.

A customs official said that as part of efforts to "investigate terrorist financing," the agency was "scrutinizing movements of gold by several companies, including ARY Gold," one of Dubai's largest and most prestigious gold bullion and jewelry dealers.

ARY's cramped headquarters are situated in the heart of Dubai's gold market - an area several blocks square, filled with stores that sell little else. Abdul Razzak, the Pakistani owner of ARY Gold, strongly denied knowingly doing business with the Taliban or Al Qaeda.

"I am a God-fearing person, but all my life I have been afraid of religious people like the Taliban," Razzak said. "I wouldn't like to deal with Taliban people, and we don't like Taliban people.

"If you say you want 100 kilos of gold, I can give you that wherever you want in 12 hours. What you do with it is your business."

Razzak, who owns three of Dubai's largest gold jewelry stores, said he imports and exports gold legally. Dubai has no restrictions on either activity, and Razzak said competitors were spreading lies about his company out of jealousy.

During two interviews, Razzak displayed few hints that he was a powerful political and financial broker. Wearing a simple white robe, he spoke in a small office separated by a glass partition from brokers monitoring a bank of computers. On the wall were plaques commemorating his gifts to charitable causes.

In 1998, Pakistani investigators looking into government corruption found two checks, each for $5 million, allegedly paid by ARY Gold in 1994 to Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistani prime minister at the time, to secure a two-year monopoly on gold imports to Pakistan.

While acknowledging that he held the monopoly and shipped $500 million in gold to Pakistan from 1994 to 1996, Razzak said that he had paid no bribes and that "enemies" had falsified the bank documents.

He was cleared of criminal charges in Dubai but still faces charges in Pakistan from that case, the Pakistani authorities said.

In addition to using gold to hide assets, there is evidence that Al Qaeda smuggled gold into Pakistan and India for profit. Smuggling gold is lucrative because the two countries have a high demand for gold and legal gold imports are taxed.

A Qaeda manual found by British forces in Afghanistan late last year included not only chapters on how to build explosives and clean weapons, but also on how to smuggle gold on small boats or conceal it on the body, British and U.S. officials said.

The officials said that the Taliban and Al Qaeda moved large quantities of gold into Afghanistan after the Taliban rose to power in the mid-1990s, in part because most people in the region are more familiar with gold than foreign currencies. The officials said the Taliban collected taxes in gold from the heads of Pakistani and Indian trucking networks that hauled cargo through Afghanistan.

Donations to Al Qaeda and the Taliban from wealthy supporters were often made in gold, the officials said, and taxes on opium production, a source of revenue for both groups, were also paid in gold, according to U.S. and British officials. Gold bullion was flown directly from Dubai to the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar on Ariana Afghan Airlines, the officials said. "The Taliban took gold into Afghanistan because there was nothing else they could take there," said Jost, who has studied the use of gold by terrorist groups. "The local money was worthless, and foreign currency brings suspicion, but if you show up with gold, people know exactly what that is worth." For Al Qaeda to operate, the gold needed to be easily convertible to cash, and to be available around the world. For that, the organization is believed to rely on a hidden financial network across the Middle East, Pakistan and Europe, U.S. and European investigators said.

Dubai's links to suspected terrorist financing and money laundering have long been a point of contention between the United States and the United Arab Emirates. "There is no question the UAE was used by terrorists, the question is why," a U.S. official said. "It is no more lax and unregulated than many places. The answer is, Dubai is so damn convenient."

The tale of Punch and Judy varies from puppeteer to puppeteer and has changed over time. It typically involves Punch behaving outrageously, struggling with his wife Judy and the Baby, and then triumphing in a series of encounters with the forces of law and order (and often the supernatural). The classic ending of the show has him dispatching the Devil himself, exclaiming "Huzzah huzzah, I've killed the Devil!".
All is performed in the spirit of outrageous comedy and is intended to provoke shocked laughter. Whilst the Victorian version of the show drew on the morality of its day, the 20th and 21st Century versions of the tale have evolved into something more akin to a primitive version of The Simpsons – in which a bizarre family is used as vehicle for grotesque visual comedy and a sideways look at contemporary society.
The stereotypical view of Punch casts him as a deformed, child-murdering, wife-beating psychopath who commits appalling acts of violence and cruelty upon all those around him and escapes scot-free – this is greatly enjoyed by small children. Terry Pratchett draws attention to this apparent paradox in his short story Theatre of Cruelty, the last line of which is "That's not the way to do it." In actual fact, Punch has long since reverted to his origins as a clown figure whose acts of violence are in the same tradition as those to be seen in all classic cartoons. The very stick he uses is a slapstick: the knockabout device which gave its name to a whole genre of broad physical comedy.

Sex and flirting in Japan
homasse asked about the differences in flirting styles in the different countries I've been in, and Meg asked the same question only about sex (-_-);;; um, I don't travel the world treating it like a smorgasbord of guys, sampling various ones from each country (tragically). But I can talk about Japan, and it's pretty different. So.

Flirting in Japan

Flirting seems like a misnomer. It's more like an absense of flirting. If you like someone in Japan, there are a couple of different ways of showing it and/or approaching them, none of which really resemble flirting in the west.

1. Nanpa (the "pickup")
First off, only guys do nanpa; in the rare case that girls do it, it's called gyaku-nan ("reverse nanpa"), but I never heard of gyaku-nan actually happening, it always seemed like it was more of an amusing theoretical idea, rather than something girls really did.

Nanpa only refers to the case when you don't know the other person at all, and you want to pick them up. Nanpa is direct. "You're cute. What's your name? Do you have time? Let's go somewhere." That is the classic script of nanpa. It can be shortened to just: "Kawaii yo. Jikan aru?" If you hear that, you're being nanpa-ed. Of course, if you are a non-Asian foreigner, you will probably never hear that, because Japanese guys are too shy to try and nanpa a white or black woman. Most Japanese guys are too shy to nanpa at all. If you ask a Japanese if he has ever done nanpa, he'll probably say, "ZOMG! No way! I'm too embarrassed!" since nanpa is direct, and mostly, if you are Japanese and you like someone, you embark on a series of subtle, indirect stealth manoeuvres, because liking prohibits action, especially for women, but also for men.

Why is this the case? Japanese social interaction is all about intuiting the other person's wishes without discussing them openly, at the same time that they are intuiting your wishes without discussing them openly, so that although nothing is ever verbalised, the two of you will always exist in a compromise position of equilibrium. If you like someone, that intuitive part goes into overdrive, because you should be able to understand everything about that person without them ever telling you, and you should be able to please them without ever asking how, even more than you would with a normal person. So it's more important than ever to be indirect. Which leads me to:

2. Negotiating through a third party
Again, it's not really flirting, but since flirting is showing your feelings openly--that is, pushing your feelings onto another person, which is direct and rude--it's better to show no sign to the other person and meanwhile exploit the back channels. Sort of like in high school. So that convoluted human chain whereby: you like Hiro and you tell Junko that you think Hiro has a nice smile knowing that Junko will intuit that you want to know if Hiro likes you back, since Junko is friends with Goro who is friends with Hiro and Junko will talk to Goro and Goro will bring it up with Hiro etc etc etc etc etc etc. Once everything is confirmed, Hiro will ask you out. (The girl ask the guy out? Ahahahaha. Be serious.)

If you don't have a third party to negotiate for you, you may be forced to use other methods, all of them so subtle that a westerner may not even notice them at all.

3. Subtle signals

- Shyness. Pronounced shyness is form of flirting, since it's a sign of liking, especially from girls, but also from guys. She interacts with everyone else more than him, she doesn't sit next to him, she doesn't talk much to him, she doesn't initiate anything with him.
- Attentiveness. You make life easier for the other person without being asked to. For example, when you got to a restaurant in Japan it's normal to share food, so flirting means not ordering what you like, but ordering what s/he likes, which you already know without asking, because you're observant. Stuff like that.
- Eye contact. It's the opposite to the west, where you gaze deeply into someone's eyes if you like them. Direct eye contact is a bit rude in Japan at the best of times. If you're flirting you look down and away a lot.
- Indirect compliments. I can't think of a good example. It's pretty rare to give direct compliments and even more rare to compliment someone's looks. (It's especially rare for guys to compliment girls directly.) I wish I could think of a good example! I'll come back to this one.

Sex in Japan

It's really different. It's just so completely different. The first time I had sex with a Japanese guy was easily the most bamboozling experience of my entire life.

Before I launch into anything, I should say that while I lived in Japan for five years, I have had sex with only a select few people, and that was within long term relationships, so it's not as if I have personally taken a wide sample. But I had a network of Japanese friends (mostly female) and every time I encountered a cultural difference I immediately pumped them all for information, asking my millions of questions. I make generalized statements only when something that I personally experienced was confirmed as The Norm.

The biggest difference is that sex in Japan is not a mutual sharing experience with both partners spontaneously doing whatever they feel like or enjoy whenever they feel like doing it. Sex has rules and sex has roles just as every social interaction in Japan has rules and roles. There is an active partner and a passive partner. Active means moving; passive means unmoving. In heterosexual sex, the active partner is always male, and the passive partner is always female. In gay sex you work out your roles beforehand: the seme is active, the uke is passive (for gay guys); the tachi is active, the neko is passive (for gay women). If you are familiar with seme/uke conventions from yaoi manga, you can use them as a way of relating to what I'm talking about, because those conventions are not a fictional construct, randomly decided upon by a group of yaoi mangaka. Straight people have sex like that too, in reality.

So there is an active partner and a passive partner, which causes various flow on effects. You can't have "Whoo-hoo! Go for it!" sex because both partners are constrained by their roles. The passive partner (obviously) because she can't move, and the active partner because he has to take care of the passive partner, instructing her on what to do and exerting himself so that she has a good time.

Japanese guys are generally more stressed out by sex than western guys and that is because they are responsible for the sex; as the active male, the sex is their burden, they have to do everything, it's all up to them. Sex equates not only (sometimes not even primarily) with 'fun' or 'pleasure', it also equates with 'work' and 'obligation'.

I also can't emphasise enough just how passive the passive partner is. The way a woman kisses is by submissively opening her mouth, not moving her tongue unless she is cued to do so; if she's really feminine she won't open her mouth at all, until she's told to. Sometimes women will move around a (very) little during sex, but mostly not at all. The slang term for a woman who lies completely still in bed is maguro (tuna). For me, with my western sensibilities and preconceptions, calling someone a 'tuna' in bed sounds like an insult, conjuring up images of cold dead fish, but in Japan that word has a very positive connotation. Tuna's an expensive delicacy.

Part of what was so bamboozling the first time I had sex in Japan was that I didn't know there was a Way of Sex, with strict gendered roles, and I just was happily doing my own thing, throwing my partner into total confusion. Seiji told me much later that dating me made him feel like he was gay, because I was active in bed, and he couldn't connect that with anything except masculinity.

When it came to the guys I dated, even though it was completely outside their experience, they sort of (kind of) eventually adjusted their thinking and accepted the fact that I was active (because I was Foreign and Foreign Women Are Different) but the thing I could never completely change was the fixed idea they had that someone must be passive. Yes, I could be active in bed, but they had no template for how to react to that other than the female/passive/uke template. So at best we could alternate "active periods", and though the lines between active and passive blurred a little over time, they never blurred completely. And total shutdowns still happened: thirty seconds tick past and my partner hasn't moved at all . . . oh, okay, I get what's happened.

If I'm making cross-cultural sex sound like a bit of a nightmare: yeah, it was. In this case, once I worked out what was going on, I thought all my problems could be solved by a simple conversation or two, explaining the more free-form nature of western sex, and encouraging my partner along the lines of, "You don't have to act a certain way, you can act however you like! You can relax! Enjoy yourself! Doesn't that sound great?" but that was also a failure to understand the Japanese psyche. It's not liberating for a Japanese person to be told there are no rules, it's frightening. I was inadvertently terrorizing my partner by dropping them into the middle of a scary foreign wilderness and telling them to make do without a map.

Sex and hygiene

Sex in the west can be spontaneous, but sex in Japan isn't, or at least, not in the same way. In Japan, you can't get in the front door and immediately start stripping each other's clothes off in the hallway. Well, you can, and your Japanese partner will probably acquiesce because they are Japanese, but deep down they will be hideously uncomfortable and thinking, "Sex? But I'm not mentally prepared! I haven't done my kokoro no junbi! And she hasn't had a shower! And I haven't had a shower! This is kind of gross!"

Shower is important. You should shower directly before and after you have sex. Before is more important than after. This makes me sound like I only ever dated people with OCD, but it's the norm. The way I first found out about this was in conversation with my friend Natsue.

Me: I was at Seiji's place hanging out and he randomly told me that I could use his shower if I felt like it. Don't you think that's weird?
Natsue: *cracks up laughing* Cat, that means he wants to have sex with you! If a guy mentions having a shower, he is saying that he wants to have sex.
Me: But isn't it kind of rude to imply I needed to shower first? Like, it was a date, obviously I had showered before going over to his apartment!
Natsue: Well, I suppose so. . . *sounding unconvinced* . . . but didn't you say he lives in Yokohama?
Me: What does Yokohama have to do with it?
Natsue: Well, you went on the train to get there . . . it's better to have another shower. If a guy had sex with me without showering first, it would make me really uncomfortable.

Sensing yet another cross-cultural disaster in the making, I began the investigation, hitting up all the usual suspects for information, including my friend Tomoko, who was dating a western guy called Andy.

Me: Sorry to bring this up suddenly, but does it weird you out that Andy sometimes initiates sex without showering first?
Tomoko: YES! I'm so glad I finally have someone to talk to about this! Cat, are all westerners like this? It's so dirty and I can't relax! It makes me feel like we are just animals!

After I heard basically the same story from all my Japanese girlfriends, I went back to Seiji.

Me: First of all, westerners don't always shower or have a bath before sex. However, I will try to accommodate you on this because the idea of sex without showering seemed to horrify everyone I talked to right down to their very bones. Secondly, when you suggested that I shower the other day, and I said no, I was not rejecting you. I didn't understand that it was your Japanese signal that you wanted to have sex. If I had understood that, I would definitely have said yes.
Seiji: *spits tea all over the table*
Me: …this is one of those deeply unspoken Japanese things that I'm not supposed to talk about directly, isn't it.
Seiji: Yes.

Another thing that is considered rather icky and unhygienic is ejaculate. Guys are really embarrassed by it. They will be desperately scrabbling for a tissue almost before you realise they've come at all, since it is really bad form to get ejaculate anywhere, without cleaning it up immediately afterwards (and immediately means immediately). This is yet one more thing that men are responsible for as the 'active' partner. The more of a nice, polite guy they are, the more stressed out they will be about it. It's also yet one more way that the sex is prescribed and controlled; the guy can never really let go, because even at the moment of climax, he's already worrying about cleaning up, or trying not to make a mess in the first place.

. . . okay, wow, I have been writing and thinking about this entry for more than an hour, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface, so I'm just going to stop here. Tresvant sang lead on many of the New Edition lead singles including "Candy Girl", "Cool It Now" and "If It Isn't Love". Tresvant led the group from 1983 to 1989.

Despite the success of groupmates Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, and Johnny Gill, Tresvant was cautious about his own solo career. Signing to MCA Records, Tresvant let his apprehension be known in several interviews.

Nevertheless, well-known producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were confident in his abilities after having worked with him on the album Heartbreak. They wrote the song "Sensitivity" for him which hit #1 on the R&B charts, #4 on the Hot 100 and it went gold. His self-titled album released shortly after in 1990 and went platinum as well, topping the R&B charts. The album scored two more hits with "Stone Cold Gentleman" reaching #3 on the R&B charts and "Do What I Gotta Do" which reached #2.

Tresvant appeared in the movie House Party 2 in 1991, performing the song 'Yo Baby Yo' from the House Party 2 Movie Soundtrack. In 1993, he released his second album, It's Goin' Down. The album featured greater involvement from Tresvant as he produced many of the tracks himself. However, the album failed to perform as well as the debut.

In October 2004 "Sensitivity" appeared in popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on R&B/Soul radio station CSR 103.9. On September 18, 2004 he married Amber Serrano.

Ralph's third solo album, Rizz-Wa-Faire, was released March 7, 2006. The first single from the album was "My Homegirl".

Tresvant will portray Reverend Kenneth Winter in the 2008 film, Mama, I Want to Sing! starring pop-R&B singer Ciara who would play the main character Amara Winter, the daughter of Tresvant's character

Lil Wayne became Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. again Tuesday, however briefly.
At 2 p.m., Eleanor McMain Secondary School's most famous -- and infamous -- former student returned to the campus at the corner of South Claiborne and Nashville avenues.
Trailed by two camera crews and the pungent aroma of pot, he disembarked from his tour bus with the requisite swagger and trappings of hip-hop's hottest m.c.: Hulking security guard, jeweled platinum crucifix, baggy jeans, black Converse sneakers, oversize leather jacket, dreadlocks tumbling past his shoulders, cell phone clamped to an ear.
As he chatted a few minutes later with McMain students in a cluttered first-floor classroom, a chime sounded over the school's crackling intercom.
Mid-sentence, Wayne paused, smiled sheepishly and buried his face in his hands -- the chime was the same as when he attended McMain.
The previous 14 years -- the albums, the videos, the concerts, the magazine covers, the accolades, the money, the notoriety, the partying, the arrests -- evaporated. He was a kid again.
"That," Wayne said, beaming, "brought back a lot of memories."
Wayne revisited McMain to fulfill a deal. His manager, Cortez Bryant -- also a McMain alumnus -- wanted local students to design an invitation to a gala launching Wayne's nonprofit One Family Foundation. Bryant contacted Beverly Cook, his former fine arts teacher at McMain.
"We wanted to connect back to Wayne's experiences in New Orleans," Bryant said. "McMain was a valuable stage in his life."
Cook and fellow art teacher Natalie Maloney turned the commission into a quarterly exam. The final design, a composite from several students, featured Wayne's face and a fleur-de-lis.
His gala was canceled, but the students' design will be the stage backdrop for an upcoming tour. In lieu of payment, Cook made an unusual request: Would Wayne come to McMain and speak to her students?
Rap culture plays an enormous role in their lives. Classroom conversations touch on hip-hop hype vs. reality and the positive and negative aspects of the language and lifestyle.
Cook hoped a visit from one of the genre's leading figures might inject a dose of reality into discussions.
"By the time you're a junior in high school, you know you don't have the talent to be in the NFL," Cook said. "But they still think they have the ability to be a rap star. A lot of kids don't think about any other options."
Dwayne "Lil' Wayne" Carter is living the dream. He grew up in the Hollygrove neighborhood and eastern New Orleans. In the early 1990s, he spent two years at McMain before moving on to Marion Abramson Senior High School.
In seventh grade, he appeared as a Munchkin -- complete with big red nose -- in a McMain production of "The Wiz." (A grainy YouTube clip of Wayne's rambunctious Munchkin has received 225,000 views and sparked lively debate about its authenticity and its effects on his gangsta credibility.)
"He didn't always behave, but as far as an actor, you couldn't ask for anything better," recalled Marta Bivins, his McMain drama teacher. "He was very talented. He was very committed to his character."
Wayne caught the ears of Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan "Baby" Williams around the same time. The youngster turned up at Cash Money autograph signings and rapped into Williams' answering machine.

In the 1990s, New Orleans still was considered a hip-hop backwater. The ascendance of the Cash Money and No Limit empires changed that. Wayne first contributed to Cash Money's success as a member of the Hot Boys alongside Juvenile, B.G. and Young Turk. He released his first solo album, "Tha Block Is Hot," in 1999 at age 17. By then, he already was a father.
Now 25, he has stepped out from Cash Money's shadow. His 2005 album "Tha Carter II" sold 240,000 copies its first week, debuting at No. 2. He has guested on singles by everyone from Destiny's Child to Kanye West and released a flood of new songs online and via semi-official mix tapes.
His reputation is built not on the fleeting fame of a hit single, but on a body of work coupled with an enigmatic, prolific and unpredictable persona.
In 2007, he solidified his status as rap's most celebrated artist. Under the headline "High and Mighty," The New Yorker proclaimed Wayne "indisputably the rapper of the year." His upcoming sixth solo album, "Tha Carter III," is the most anticipated rap release of 2008.
Credit Cortez Bryant in part with orchestrating Wayne's meteoric rise. Clean-cut, well-spoken and sporting stylish eyeglasses, Bryant is the yin to his client's yang.
Three years ahead of Wayne at McMain, Bryant led the school band's cymbal section. When Wayne joined, Bryant took him under his wing. "I saw him like a big brother," Wayne said.
One Saturday, Bryant invited the cymbal section to his house for additional practice. Wayne was the only one who showed up. "We connected from that day on," Bryant said.
At the time, Bryant discouraged Wayne's hip-hop ambitions. "I was more of a realist," Bryant said. "I was the conservative type. All that beatin' on your chest and rapping -- have something to fall back on."
Wayne had the last laugh. "I punished him," Wayne said, "by making him my manager."
After McMain, Bryant earned a mass communications and graphic design degree from Jackson State University in Mississippi. The music business did not factor into his plans until he received a call from Wayne three years ago. At a career crossroads, Wayne needed a manager he could trust. Bryant accepted the challenge.
Managing Wayne is indeed a challenge. In his most recent run-in with the law, Wayne's tour bus was stopped Jan. 22 at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint outside Yuma, Ariz. A search yielded marijuana, cocaine and Ecstasy. Officials also found a .40-caliber pistol registered to Wayne, who has a concealed weapons permit in Florida. The Yuma County, Ariz., attorney's office filed felony drug and weapons charges.
Given his rap sheet, Wayne is perhaps not an obvious choice to speak to students.
"He tells them to be whatever they want to be to the fullest," Bryant said. "Be successful. Don't stop, don't lose hope, don't give up. If you want to be a doctor, be the best doctor you can be.
"He's not really telling the kids to be like him. He knows he's not perfect. He admits to making mistakes."
Scheduling Wayne's visit to McMain was not easy. Now based in Miami, he is constantly on the move. But he would be in New Orleans during the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Hoping to avoid a mob scene, his McMain visit was kept secret. Not even Bryant's sister Dominique and brother Keith -- both students at McMain -- knew the details.
Teachers secretly selected 40 students to attend the question-and-answer session. Just after 1 p.m. Tuesday, the principal summoned the chosen students to her office. After teachers confiscated their cell phones -- so they couldn't text friends -- they were directed to Cook's art room, where they learned about the impending celebrity visit.
"This never happens in real life," Cook said. "Can you follow the rule of field trips?"
"Don't embarrass the teacher," the students replied in unison.
Their questions, Cook instructed, "must be meaningful. You have to be respectful. I trust that you will be cordial but honest and sincere."
Additionally, Cook said, a crew from MTV would film them.
Girls immediately started primping.

The rapper ran late. Nina Packer's Atlanta firm manages Wayne's nonprofit One Family Foundation. She killed time as his opening act.
"I apologize on his behalf," she said. "But I'm sure nobody is shocked."
Finally, a black tour bus with red and gold swooshes turned onto Nashville from Claiborne and parked. Minutes ticked by with lil' sign of Lil' Wayne.
At last, he emerged and ambled across Nashville. Cook greeted him with a hug. "Welcome back to McMain," she said.
He smiled, strolled into the art room and settled into a green vinyl chair as a wave of excitement rippled through the room. Cook discreetly asked him to hike up his jeans -- students aren't allowed to let their pants sag. He laughed and ignored her.
"Good afternoon," Wayne said, before confirming with Bryant that it was, in fact, afternoon. "I'm happy to be here."
For the next 45 minutes, he was on his best behavior. He cheerfully engaged the students, addressing the girls as "darlin'Â¤" or "sweetheart."
A student asked if he had envisioned his success.
"You don't start nothing without visualizing yourself at the top," he said. "I encourage you not to -- don't start nothing you don't think will be successful."
His mother, he said, "let me pursue a dream. She didn't care what my age was." Given that strong foundation, he "wants to do that for other people" via his foundation.
Would he visit the 9th Ward on this trip?
"Well, I'm from Uptown ..." he said, smiling. The students laughed.
One girl asked if his time at McMain enabled him to "be the beautiful man you are now."
"McMain helped a lot," he said. "It was the only good school (he attended). But I don't know if it made me beautiful."
His rapping is self-motivated. "My passion is different from other people. Some may do it for girls. I do it for it."
What is his next goal?
"You know who Billy Ray Cyrus is? He did that song 'Achy Breaky Heart.' You know Hannah Montana? That is his daughter. She makes crazy money. I have a daughter ..."
The room erupted in laughter.
"Y'all 'bout to get used to her," Wayne promised. "That's her goal. She don't want to be nothing but an entertainer."
Classmates heckled Julie Nguyen, a senior, when she asked Wayne to the prom. He inquired about the date, then politely declined, explaining that he'd be out of the country.
"He did ask me about the date," Nguyen said later, "so that counts for something."
Being a rapper from New Orleans presented unique challenges, Wayne said. "The hardest part was being taken seriously. They don't get the slang."
Asked to name his favorite song from his repertoire, he glanced around like a mischievous schoolboy, then censored himself: "F the World," he said, bracketing the "F" with air quotes.
He declined when asked to free-style: "They would put me out of here."
As the session wound down, the students segregated themselves by grade to pose for pictures. Wayne instructed them to shout "Young Money," the name of his record label, instead of "cheese."
"The seniors were louder," he teased a gaggle of juniors.
From McMain, Wayne's entourage headed to Harrell Playground at the corner of Claiborne and Leonidas Street. He played football at Harrell as a boy, and his One Family Foundation is working with the New Orleans Recreation Department to restore the park.
By Wednesday, Wayne was in Atlanta to pose for Vibe and Rolling Stone magazines and finish his album.
Back at McMain, Cook and her students rehashed his visit.
"I thought the kids would grill him," Cook said. "Had they done that, they would have gotten to the real Wayne, as opposed to the image. They had so much bravado (before he arrived). Then when they had the opportunity, they were star-struck.
"One girl was angry (at Wayne) and wanted to say something. But she couldn't do it in front of her peers. And I didn't feel like I was the one to do the challenging. It would have changed the dynamic."
She had hoped to provide her students with "an opportunity to meet somebody that they might consider a role model, and then realize that perhaps he wasn't exactly the role model that he should have been.
"I'm not sure that happened."
Still, Cook said, "it was a good learning experience."

seems like we should be ok with the message right. Wayne is family oriented and takes care of his... at least he was able to put aside his personal image and be honest about the real world. which is what most don't get about rap or hip hop.. when you get the chance most fans of hip hop want to move beyond the restrictions of drugs, crime, and poverty.. its not until you get that chance... I know because I did.. Cortez and Wayne are an example of the work that can be done when you realize a dream but look back and realize a vision.... good looking homeboy... keep doing things to change the world...

I like Lil Wayne and all but he's a sell out, he keeps talking about New Orleans in his songs as if he still lives there yet he's been living in Miami for almost 6 years now after he moved from Texas (while going to school to be a Psychologist) i'll Subtract the few years of school from the Equation but he's been outside of Louisiana for a very long time, granted he come to do many many more concerts there than he does in any other city and he come back to give back and use his Albums to shine a light on the real deal in New Orleans, got his mom a Mansion in New Orleans and "SOMETIMES" give a positive message, but the dude need to stop Stuttin like he lives in New Orleans, rep your New city Lil Wayne, Miami is your home, enjoy that Condo..

EXETER, N.H. -- Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel told a group of high school students on Sunday that marijuana is safer than alcohol.
Speaking to a group of students at Phillips Exeter Academy, he said that he believes people should be able to buy marijuana in package stores.
"Alcohol is a heck of a lot worse than marijuana, and I'm sure a lot of you have tripped out on alcohol," Gravel said. "It's a lot safer to do it on marijuana."

Gravel has called for the decriminalization of minor drug offenses and better treatment for abuses of hard drugs.
A spokeswoman for Phillips Exeter said that candidates are free to express their opinions.

Doctor Doom (Victor von Doom) is a fictional Marvel Comics supervillain created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Anthony Stark was born in Long Island, New York. He enters the undergraduate electrical engineering program at MIT while only 15 years old and graduates at the top of his class. At the age of 21, he inherits his father's company, Stark Industries, after his parents are killed in a car accident. One of the first things Stark does is buy out the company that made the faulty brakes on his parents' car and correct the mechanical problem.
While on a visit to Vietnam (later updated to the Gulf War) to see how his new mini-transistors could assist the American war effort, Stark is caught in a booby trap. On the way back, Iron Man encounters a wounded American Air Force helicopter pilot, Jim Rhodes. Introducing himself as Stark's bodyguard, Iron Man and Rhodes manage to defend themselves against the pursuing North Vietnamese before making it back to American lines.
